“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” ~Joseph Campbell
As a dinosaur paleontologist, I am very good at finding stuff. And due to the nature of the work, I have a good baseline of patience, strength, and endurance. I also used to have a good baseline for drinking! I quit the booze in 2007, and after sorting all the skeletons in my closet, I knew I was ready to hunt for something other than fossils. And I found what I was looking for with yoga, which I had practiced intermittently since 1992.
Nancy Ruby’s YogaMotion Teacher Training was essential in helping me transition from a very competitive, ego-driven, thought-based field into one where sharing, community, feelings, inner knowing, oneness, and heart-based living are celebrated. How skillfully Nancy held our hearts as they opened! But in early 2010, I began to notice that my energy was off. I often felt quite drained after teaching a yoga class, or after just about anything.
The source of this energy-drain turned out to be a whole host of “dis-eases,” too numerous to list here, but including things like precancerous leukemia, polycystic kidney disease, and fibromyalgia. Just prior to this, Nancy had assigned us a daily gratitude practice as part of our homework. (And by the way, there is lots of homework! But it’s all very good for you.) Gratitude turned out to be an important member of my support group, along with my loved ones, my yoga tribe, several holistic health practitioners, organic food, and of course, my daily yoga practice.
As owner/operator of Yin Yang Yoga in Choteau, Montana, I facilitate awareness and healing in others through my offerings which include yoga, wellness coaching, and drumming. The yoga practices I share center around breathing, feeling gratitude, utilizing the power of personal intention, and cultivating open-hearted awareness. In conjunction with Dropstone Outfitting, I lead stock-assisted backpacking yoga adventures into the wilderness of Montana and one’s own heart. This year we have the Labor Day Yoga Get-Away from August 29 – September 1. I also facilitate drum circles for all ages and abilities, and am co-leading a Yoga & Drumming Retreat with YogaMotion graduate Martha Piersma from September 19 – 21. In 2013, I expanded my offerings by becoming certified as a Health Coach with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN). How did I first learn about IIN? From Nancy, of course!
I encourage you to step into the life that is waiting for you by enrolling in Nancy Ruby’s YogaMotion Teacher Training. You will be lovingly supported along the way, and amazed at how beautifully it all unfolds.
