The YogaMotion office will be unplugged for a couple 4-day weekends in September as we relocate to the beautiful Diamond J Guest Ranch for two retreats – The Final Savasana and Beauty and the Blissed (Two spaces open for Savasana. Bliss is now full).
We invite you to practice unplugging for some part of each day, or perhaps a full day or two. Yes, the world will carry on and you will be more present for your family, friends, furry companions and your Self. It wasn’t that long ago that this was the norm. I am not saying technology or social media is bad. It’s about how we use it and how we can let go of our excessive attachments (Raga).
As John Swartzber, MD says in the article What are the Health Benefits of Unplugging, humans are social animals, but if our social interactions with other people are being replaced by interactions with devices, that may have detrimental effects on our health.
If we spend too much time staring at a screen we may miss the life that is happening right in front of us, good or bad. You have probably noticed that out in the public these days. So many down-turned heads buried in personal devices that ‘tech neck’ has become a common structural imbalance. Yikes. What are we doing to ourselves?
Consciously and consistently unplug and as Ram Dass said, “Be here now.” Notice your thoughts, your feelings, your actions. Breathe in the world around you. Notice the world within you. Give gratitude for all that is good in your life…without a 140 character limitation.
Ways to Enrich your Life…
- Avoid technology upon waking and before sleeping – at least 30 minutes.
- No technology in the bedroom – it will disturb your sleep.
- Driving your car – turn it off and pay attention to the world in front of you.
- Dining – thoroughly enjoy your food and the company you keep.
- Trust that you can connect without texting – make a plan and follow through.
Enjoy and let us know how and when you unplug – for the health of it.
